STILLWATER, Okla. —
OETA-The Oklahoma Network will premiere Darla Z’s Christmas ’Round The World, a holiday musical special starring Oklahoma singer and songwriter Darla Zuhdi, a 1981 graduate of Stillwater High School.
The special will air at 8 p.m. Saturday on OETA. In December, the show will air on public television stations nationwide, including prime-time airings in Los Angeles on Dec. 16, 17 and 19 and New York on Dec. 14.
Accompanied by arranger and conductor Bob Rozario, this new performance from Darla Z filmed in Las Vegas, Nev., kicks off with the Parisian version of Jingle Bells, one of 16 songs that truly inspire holiday cheer. Within this hour-long special, Darla Z explores the history of each carol, revealing surprising facts behind some of our most beloved holiday traditions. Filled with joyful Christmas carols flavored in tone to a specific area of the world, with footage from charming locales across the globe, the musical showcases different cultures and celebrations of the season.
Some interview segments in the special contain footage and photographs provided by the Oklahoma History Center, National WWI Museum, Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum and the Hawaiian Visitor’s Bureau.
Darla Z began her musical career opening in concert for Willie Nelson. She has performed frequently in Las Vegas and also has opened in concert for Wayne Newton.
Her vocal performances in Las Vegas have been heard nationwide on the radio station program Stay Tuned America.
The Christmas special is the second network special by Darla Z; her first was released nationally in 2011.
Darla Z, whose maiden name is Darla Boyd, was raised in Stillwater.
Her parents, Don and Linda Boyd, live in Stillwater.
Darla Z is also the author of the four children’s books in the Cat Detectives series, including the beloved holiday book, Tale of A Christmas Angel.
Her first book, Finding Your Dream, was recommended by The Humane Society of the United States and her other books have been enthusiastically reviewed by Cat Fancy magazine and New Mexico magazine.
Darla Z is a board member of the Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum in Seminole and is an advocate of quality, wholesome entertainment for children and families.
