Oklahoma State University fraternity member dies

STILLWATER, Okla. — Stillwater police are investigating the death of an Oklahoma State University fraternity student who died Monday in an Oklahoma City hospital, a Stillwater police spokesman said Tuesday.

The Oklahoma Medical Examiner's office is investigating.

The 21-year student was a junior from Plano, Texas. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.

OSU Fraternity and Sorority Association Manager Ival Gregory said David Brumfield, 21, died around noon Monday. A cause of death has not been determined.

Stillwater Police Capt. Randy Dickerson said police aren't releasing any additional details.

Gregory said Brumfield was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He did not live in the chapter house.

"First and foremost I think we need to keep the family in our thoughts and prayers," Gregory said.

Sigma Chi members are waiting to learn about funeral or memorial service plans from Brumfield's family. The university will provide a bus for Sigma Chi members if they want to attend a service in Plano, Gregory said.

Sigma Chi leadership and OSU will have counselors available after homecoming weekend.

“I love the high energy stuff,” he said. “Even though it’s country, being able to rock it up, distorted guitars and just seeing the crowd, feeding off of that.”
