STILLWATER, Okla. —
A doll, two magazines and $150. A knife-wielding Drumright man is accused of stealing these items from a Stillwater adult novelty store last week.
Payne County deputies arrested Jessie Allen Smith after a high-speed chase that ended in the suspect crashing his truck and getting Tasered.
Smith, 27, is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, third offense and attempting to elude officers.
Stillwater Police Capt. Randy Dickerson said the Perkins Road store was robbed by a suspect with a knife sometime before midnight Thursday. The man took a blowup doll, two magazines and $150.
Payne County deputies spotted the green pickup, identified by witnesses as leaving the scene of the robbery, on Third Street. A pursuit started when the suspect wouldn’t pull over.
The suspect ran two stop signs, swerved to knock traffic cones toward squad cars and nearly struck a squad car when the pickup became airborne after hitting a dip in the road, records show. The chase ended at 12th Street and Jardot when the suspect’s pickup struck a telephone pole and a tree on a dead-end road.
The suspect climbed from the car. He ran from deputies who used a Taser to stop him. The suspect, records show, was Tasered a second time when he refused to show his hands. Officers recovered a knife from the truck.
Smith is due in court at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday for arraignment.
