Police: Slain man likely stomped, kicked at small party

STILLWATER, Okla. — The victim in a Stillwater murder case was likely stomped and kicked after an incident escalated at a small party, Stillwater police said.

Jeremy Sutherland, 32, of Stillwater died at the University of Oklahoma  Medical Center Wednesday while being treated for severe head injuries, broken ribs and other injuries consistant  with being kicked and stomped, Police Capt. Randy Dickerson said Thursday.

He said he anticipated the cause of death would be blunt force trauma.

Dickerson said Sutherland, a 24-year-old female and 26-year-old Christopher Dawes were partying at a residence in the 1100 block of S. Husband Street Saturday night when an incident escalated into an attack by Dawes on the other two.

The female recieved injuries to her head and face, and her right arm was broken. She was treated and released from the hospital.

Dawes turned himself into police early Sunday morning and is charged with first-degree murder and domestic assault and battery by strangulation.

Dickerson said the three were at least friends. Court records indicate Dawes and the female victim were dating.
