Stillwater aims for the sky when it comes to safety.

STILLWATER, Okla. — Stillwater became safer after the Stillwater Airport Authority approves a new business license application with a medical helicopter provider Friday afternoon.

It is part of the Englewood, Colo.-based Air Methods Corp.

After the authority approved the new agreement, Medi Flight will be planning to move into the airport before the end of the month, said Medi Flight Regional Business Director Susan Cook.

Medi Flight has established a contract with the Stillwater Medical Center and can respond to emergencies needing air transportation within a 150 mile radius. The service can also provide transports to other hospitals when needed and  respond to on-scene accidents.

Medi Flight has been growing throughout the state the last few years and it  has bases in Chickasha, Seminole, Lawton and now Stillwater, Cook said.

Stillwater Airport' Manager Gary Lawson said this agreement is important to the Stillwater community.

Johnson said this will be the second air medical provider at the  airport and the new corporation will bring 13 jobs to  Stillwater.

He said not only will it help the Stillwater economy, but it also should make the people of the Stillwater community feel better about medical attention in emergencies.

Johnson said he is excited for city's’s airport, but he is more excited for Stillwater and the surrounding areas.

"I think the most important thing is what it provides to the community," Johnson said. "It's going to benefit the community to have an additional medical transportation service and we are really excited about that."
