Fundraiser to benefit arts, humanities

STILLWATER, Okla. — A long-standing, one-night tradition that benefits arts and humanities returns to the Wes Watkins Center Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m.

The Stillwater Arts and Humanities Council hosts the Festival of the Trees: Rockin’ Retro Christmas. Tickets are $50.

According to a press release, this year’s event will recognize artist and community member Jack Allred, with entertainment from Stillwater pianist Donnie Stafford and dinner prepared by chef Jinnings Burrus.

The event will feature a live and silent auction. Items include gift certificates, a dinner prepared by Stillwater Superintendent Ann Caine and her husband, a children’s playhouse, paintings and Christmas trees. There is also a unique item part of the auction.

“We’ve selected five agencies this year to give back to,” said Cody Whittenburg, council member. “It’s the Payne County Youth Shelter, Wondertorium, Wings of Hope, Stillwater Humane Society and Stillwater Life Services.

“We ask the agencies for their Christmas wish list and we go out and try to collect a very large stocking full of those items. We turn around and auction that item off where the stocking goes to the agency and the winner of the auction is an honorary donor who gives that money to the council.”

Whittenburg said this is the Stillwater Arts and Humanities Council’s only fundraiser of the year.

All proceeds benefit the council to provide grant funding.

Attendees are encouraged to RSVP by Nov. 8 by calling 533-2525 or contacting a council member with any questions or to reserve a seat.

Contributions and sponsorships are now being accepted.
