STILLWATER, Okla. —
Oklahoma State University will host a renowned graffiti artist, author and entrepreneur Feb. 22 at the Wes Watkins Center.
Erik Wahl has spoken to more than 500,000 people, given presentations in many countries and has a client list that includes FedEx, Exxon Mobil, AT&T and Disney. Wahl’s presentation, “The Art of Vision,” will include an on-stage painting in Stillwater.
“He’s going to do one painting in the morning session and another painting in the afternoon session,” said Ray Catalino, public relations spokesman for the event.
OSU will be given the two paintings to auction off at a later date.
Wahl’s paintings have been sold at prices between $7,000 and $20,000.
The public is invited to the afternoon session from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $25 a person.
The morning session will be held exclusively for Oklahoma State staff development.
“Based upon what we’ve read and people who have seen him, he’s very creative,” Catalino said. “He makes people think outside the box, kind of see what possibilities exist and he’s not the typical motivational speaker who comes in and says, ‘rah rah, do your best.”’
He said they didn’t want that type of presentation. They wanted someone memorable.
In addition to the presentations, Wahl will give a chance to his followers on Twitter to snag an exclusive painting he has completed if they can decipher clues to its location on campus.
“He hides it somewhere,” he said. “We don’t know when and we don’t know where.”
The artwork is locked with a combination which means followers not only have to locate the painting but unlock the clues. The first to do so wins the painting.
Catalino said OSU hopes to use the money from ticket sales after expenses to keep the event going yearly for staff development.
Wahl’s Twitter is located at www.twitter.com/erikwahl. His website is www.erikwahl.com.
“It’s a little different,” Catalino said. “He hasn’t been to many college campuses and it’s kind of a new experience for us here and we want to see how it works.”
