Boots & Bandanas fundraiser slated for Aug. 23

STILLWATER, Okla. — The annual Boots & Bandanas fundraiser is set for 7 p.m. Aug. 23 with a barbecue dinner.

Carolyn Hert, the co-chairman of the event, said money raised will benefit the Central Oklahoma Community Action Agency.

“The program it goes to is in Stillwater only and it’s Stillwater Community Health Center, the Mission of Hope and Client Services,” Hert said.

Program Director of Stillwater Community Health Center Debbie Traugott said this event helps the clinic by allowing it to buy generic medications and fill prescriptions at no cost for those in need.

Hert provided statistics on behalf of the three Stillwater entities. From January to May 2012, the Community Health Center dispensed 3,564 free prescriptions and saw 64 new clients. The Mission of Hope has provided housing and services to 97 clients and Client Services has averaged approximately 138 food baskets per month.

“In the last several years, we have made in the neighborhood of $15,000 from this event,” Hert said.

The dinner will include barbecue brisket and chicken with baked beans, potato salad and two desserts. A desserts auction, under auctioneer Charlie Kaupke, will also be held. Items include food made by local chefs and speciality items.

“We have gotten autographed cookbooks (by) Ree Drummond and Trisha Yearwood,” Hert said.

Other items include a dinner cooked for 20 people in either September or October using recipes from Drummond’s cookbook.

Hert said they normally see around 130 people at the event every year.

“I think they really love it because it’s casual dress and you can wear jeans and cowboys boots if you want,” Traugott said. “I think it’s a fun night because it’s not formal. I think everybody seems to enjoy it when they come.”

Tickets are $60 per person, $450 for a table of 8 and $500 for a sponsorship table.

Those interested in purchasing tickets or receiving more information may call the Stillwater Community Health Center at 743-3171.
