STILLWATER, Okla. — Stillwater firefighters joined other area firefighters battling a raging wildland fire near Interstate 35 south of State Highway 51 Wednesday afternoon.
A wildfire also was reported near Coyle Road and 80th Street.
The National Weather Service reported a temperature of 103 degrees at 2:25 p.m. Wednesday, with a 20-mph wind.
Extremely dry and hot conditions prompted Payne County commissioners to ban outdoor burning earlier this month. Nearly half Oklahoma's 77 counties have enacted burn bans as a drought and triple-digit temperatures continue. There was no immediate information on the cause of Wednesday afternoon's fires.
