STILLWATER, Okla. —
AAA Oklahoma wants to know which school can come up with the best-tasting, original, zero-proof drink recipes — and they’re putting up $2,500 in prize money to find out: $1,250 for first place, $750 for second place and $500 for third place.
University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University students, past or present, have until Oct. 4 to submit mocktail recipes online at AAA.com/mocktail or email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Ten finalists will be selected by local food critics to compete in a hands-on competition at Iron Starr Urban Barbeque in Oklahoma City on Oct. 17 for $2,500 in cash.
Recipes must be given a name, they must be original, they must be non-alcoholic and made with ingredients easily obtained locally. A 2013 Recipe and Party Guide will be published by AAA and distributed free statewide prior to the end-of-year holidays so party-givers can include mocktails in the drinks they offer guests.
Traffic collisions involving drunken drivers take far too many lives annually in Oklahoma. Innovative mocktail recipes give non-drinkers (and underage drinkers) fun ways to celebrate the holidays, and they give drinkers tasty alternatives to alcoholic drinks.
