Stillwater receives safe room grant funding

STILLWATER, Okla. — The city of Stillwater received a $1.4 million grant as the next step of the 2011 application process to fund individual safe room/storm shelters.

“This grant will fund the 709 individual safe rooms/storm shelters, which were applied for in 2011,” Grants Coordinator Valerie Silvers said. “We are not accepting new applications at this time; instead, we are funding ones that were already applied for through this grants process.”

For those whose application has been approved, a letter of instruction will be sent and the property owner can proceed with their purchase and installation. The grant will reimburse the home owner 75 percent of the cost up to $2,000.

The 709 approved applicants have been sent letters with complete instructions.
