Perkins man faces negligent homicide charges

STILLWATER, Okla. — A 30-year old Perkins man has been charged with two counts of negligent homicide in a March 1 accident on State Highway 51.

Michael Andrew Reed is scheduled for arraignment in Payne County District Court at 1:45 p.m. Nov. 21.

Two girls, Dajia LaNae Brown, 17, and Carla Duenez, 17, both of Oklahoma City were killed at approximately 1 a.m. March 1 when a car driven by Reed struck their disabled van.

Three males, Bobby Knifehawk Johnson, 20, of Pawnee, Jonas Pena, 16, and Peter Martinez, 17, both of Oklahoma City — were pushing the white van, which was driven by Sofia Gabrielson, 16, of Oklahoma City.

Brown and Duenez were passengers in the van, according to a court affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Reed was operating his pickup recklessly at a high rate of speed. He didn’t slow down or change lanes to avoid the accident.

Negligent homicide is a misdemeanor. If convicted on both counts, Reed could face up to two years in jail and a fine of $2,000.
