STILLWATER, Okla. — Smartie Pants Trivia Night returns for the eighth year from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Teams of eight will compete for trophies, boxer shorts and bragging rights as “the ultimate smartie pants” to benefit the Stillwater Area United Way, said Misty Smith, Oklahoma State University associate professor.

Food sales begin at 5:30 p.m. in the OSU Edmon Low Library Anne Morris Greenwood Reading Room on the second floor. The trivia competition begins at 6 p.m.

“Anyone in the community may enter — or just come to watch and eat,” Smith said.

Many university departments field trivia teams, including librarians and parking and transit services workers, along with student organizations like the college quiz bowl team.

“We’d love to have more entries from the community,” she said.

If someone wants to compete and does not have eight people for a team, they will be placed on a team. Many also come to watch and enjoy the Jeopardy-type competition with teams answering questions on a variety of topics.

The seven categories for the 2013 competition include Shazam; Where in the World?; #currentevents; Orange Power; Shark!; Stars Are Out and One Hitter. There will also be a bonus mystery category with prizes for individuals.

“Food sales include pizza, baked goods and drinks with proceeds benefiting the United Way,” Smith said.

Registration is $80 per team of eight members. Partial teams should register together for $10 per person to ensure they are seated together. Partial teams may be blended with other groups to create a team of eight.

Individuals may register for $10 and will be assigned a table.

Registration may be mailed or hand delivered to Misty Smith, OSU Library Catalog Dept., Edmon Low Library, Stillwater, OK, 74078.

Registration will also be accepted at the door.
