STILLWATER, Okla. — Payne County Economic Development Authority unanimously approved a $60,210 grant for Glencoe to improve a city park Tuesday.

Glencoe Mayor Jon Kuhn and other representatives of Glencoe attended the meeting. Kuhn said the grant would be used to repair an aging walking trail, add four RV parking spots and install a basketball court.

Kuhn said it would take four to six months to complete the walking trail, but the basketball court and the RV spots could be installed “pretty quick.”

Glencoe has a lot of people with knowledge of trades, a park board and a friends of the park association, Kuhn said.

He said Glencoe would have to hire an electrical contractor to provide outlets for the RV parking, but everything else would be done by the city and volunteers.

Development authority members, Gloria Hesser, Zach Cavett and Jim Arthur, agreed to distribute funds by having Glencoe perform work and then give invoices to Payne County.

Kuhn said the grant will be an asset to Glencoe, as the park’s asphalt walking trail is falling apart. The assistance will help encourage the city’s family atmosphere, he said. The park is used often and now can be used even more, he said.

“(The park is) the it thing for Glencoe that draws people in,” Kuhn said.
