STILLWATER, Okla. —
A former Stillwater Police Department officer was arrested Monday and charged with larceny of a controlled dangerous substance, a felony.
Police spokesman Capt. Randy Dickerson said another officer contacted him May 26 concerning the possibility Sgt. Tom McConaghy, 42, had committed a crime.
Dickerson said he ordered an internal investigation which led to a criminal investigation by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. The investigation revealed McConaghy took prescription medications from the Drug Take Back bin at the police department.
McConaghy resigned July 4 after taking personal leave.
According to court documents, McConaghy took a variety of prescription painkillers from the police department’s prescription drug disposal container on May 25.
If convicted, McConaghy could be imprisoned for up to 10 years and/or pay a fine of up to $10,000.
