Stillwater elementary school enrollment boundaries OK'd

STILLWATER, Okla. — The Stillwater Board of Education approved a redistricting map for the district’s six elementary schools at Tuesday night’s board meeting.

The redistricting, which begins next school year, will impact fewer than 400 students, Superintendent Ann Caine said. There are approximately 3,000 elementary students in Stillwater schools.

The plan designates that in the 2013-14 school year, 87 students who live on the east side of Boomer Lake will remain at Richmond Elementary School instead of moving to Will Rogers Elementary School. In the 2014-15 school year, students in that zone would return to the Will Rogers district.

Construction of a school at Will Rogers is not expected to be completed until after the next school year starts.

In the new boundary alignment, Will Rogers will have the biggest enrollment at 556 students, followed by Westwood Elementary School (550), Highland Park Elementary School (527), Sangre Ridge Elementary School (501), Skyline Elementary School (445) and Richmond (413).

“I love the high energy stuff,” he said. “Even though it’s country, being able to rock it up, distorted guitars and just seeing the crowd, feeding off of that.”
