Perkins man gets a rude awakening

PERKINS, Okla. — A Perkins man got a brutal wake-up shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday when a car smashed into his mobile home.

According to Perkins Police Chief Bob Ernst, the resident told officers he was asleep in his bed when he heard a large crash and felt his whole house move. He felt three more crashes.

The destruction was evident. His home had three large holes and the yard was strewn with debris and tire tracks. Patio furniture lay crumpled.

According to police, there was damage to the skirting, siding, air conditioning unit and water lines.

According to police, a female suspect rammed a four-door passenger car into the home, which was embedded in the home when officers arrived.

The resident complained of chest pains but refused medical transport and did not have any other injuries. The car was removed from the home by a wrecker.

A Perkins woman police identified as the resident’s ex-girlfriend was arrested and is in Payne County Jail on complaint of assault with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene of the accident. She has not been formally charged.

Police quoted the suspect as saying she got very angry and “just lost it.” She explained to police she had been trying to get her ex-boyfriend to come outside so they could have a physical altercation.

A neighbor said he was headed to his car when he heard a crashing noise. He said he saw a silver car run over some of his construction materials and drive through his yard.

The neighbor said the woman driving the damaged car one-handed leaned out the window and apologized for hitting his things and said she would pay for it.

“I love the high energy stuff,” he said. “Even though it’s country, being able to rock it up, distorted guitars and just seeing the crowd, feeding off of that.”
