STILLWATER, Okla. —
Congress extended the Farm Bill of 2008 until Sept. 30 as part of the package that raised taxes on the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans and kept income tax rates from rising on the middle class that passed the Senate and House Monday and Tuesday.
The Farm Bill of 2008 expired on Sept. 30, 2012. The Senate passed a new Farm Bill, but it was never brought to a House vote.
The new Farm Bill languished through the November election and beyond.
The extension unfurls the farm safety net for another crop year. It also extends the dairy program — minus the reforms proposed in the Senate Farm Bill and House Ag Committee Farm Bill in 2012. It basially continues all aspects of the 2008 farm law until Sept. 30.
