STILLWATER, Okla. — For more than 30 years, the Oklahoma State University Friends of Music has presented musicales featuring food from around the world in area homes.

On Feb. 10 and 17, the Friends of Music will continue the tradition that helps fund OSU’s Department of Music. This year’s committee consists of Barbara Dunn, Alane Zannotti, Martha McMillian, Betty Townsend and Jan McSwain.

“The co-hosts and hosts donate the food and hospitality for the musicales,” said Dunn, Friends of Music president, “so, all the money from the musicales goes to the music department.”

OSU Director of Opera Studies April Golliver said the money is used to purchase instruments, scholarships for students, ensemble travel and faculty conference assistance — prioritized through a list of goals submitted.

“Students and faculty performing in the musicales meet the donors personally in an intimate setting,” Golliver said.

Three choices are offered on two consecutive Sundays. The cost to attend an afternoon musicale is $50 per person. The special final evening event is $100 per person.

Reservations are required and must be made by mail or brought into the OSU Music Department office,  Seretean Center for the Performing Arts, Room 132. No phone reservations can be accepted. All reservations must be received at the music department by Feb. 4. Seating is limited so reservations are honored as they are received. Guests are encouraged to make reservations early to ensure choices are honored.

The six opportunities for food, fun and music begin with three events on Feb. 10:

OAKCREEK CELEBRATION, 2 to 4 p.m.,  in the Oakcreek Common House, Stillwater’s co-housing community on Husband Street behind the high school, will highlight chamber music by the OSU woodwind quintet led by flute faculty member Ginny Broffitt.

LOVE THAT JAZZ, 3 to 5 p.m., in the home of Dr. Phil and Bonnie Russell, will be an afternoon of fun and jazzy saxophone music by Jeffrey Loeffert and the Sax Studio.

OPERA AT ZANNOTTI’S, 5 to 7 p.m., is planned at the downtown wine bar. Golliver’s OSU opera studio students will perform their own “Elixir of Love."

Three events on Feb. 17 include:

SALONS ACROSS EUROPE, 2 to 4 p.m., will feature an afternoon of classical piano repertoire by Heather Lanners and OSU piano students in the home of Barbara Miller.

ENGLISH DELIGHT, 3 to 5 p.m., in the home of OSU architect Nigel Jones will offer afternoon tea. An OSU string ensemble will perform from the home’s balcony.

JAZZ AT A COUNTRY HOME, 6 to 8 p.m., is the  finale for the 2013 musicales. Traditional jazz music performed by the OSU Jazz group led by Ryan Gardener will be performed.
