Oklahoma State football player arrested

STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State University football safety Victor Johnson, 20, was arrested on complaints of possession of marijuana and obstructing an officer, OSU police confirmed Tuesday morning.

Police were called to his apartment in Sittlington Hall at about 12 a.m. Saturday after someone reported a suspicious smell, Capt. Richard Atkins said. When police arrived, Johnson said they couldn’t search the apartment.

Police made him wait outside while a search warrant was obtained, but Johnson attempted several times to go back into the apartment, Atkins said. Police didn’t want him to re-enter because the resident could have tampered with evidence, Atkins said.

“There were several people there (at the apartment) but he was the only resident,” Atkins said.

Johnson entered and left the Payne County Jail on Saturday, Detention Officer Annette Anderson said. His bail was $2,500.

Johnson hasn’t been charged with marijuana possession or obstructing an officer, but he was charged in June with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He entered a plea of not guilty on that charge Monday.

He is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 23 on the alcohol charge.

Assistant District Attorney Tyson Branyan said it’s not uncommon for prosecutors to take up to a week to file charges.
