Cushing crafts show raise money for Project Graduation

CUSHING, Okla. — An upcoming crafts show in Cushing will help benefit a night of safe fun and giveaways for high school graduates in May.

“A Graduation Affair,” a craft show and Christmas bazaar, will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Cushing United Methodist Church.

Coordinator Quita Baker said this is the first year for this event.

“We have definitely rented 28 booths and a possibility of two more who haven’t called back to confirm yet, but we’re still open for booth rentals,” Baker said.

Baker said booths are available for rent in two sizes — 10 feet by 10 feet booths are $25 each and 10 feet by 14 feet booths are $40.

“All the money we will make is from our booth rental,” she said. “We’re not taking a portion of any of the vendor’s money.”

Admission is $1 for adults. Students get in free. Baker said the craft show will offer a wide variety.

“There is a local church here who is going to be selling cinammon rolls,” she said. “We have handmade jewelry, we have woodworking and woodcraft, rustic crosses, old windows. ...We have homemade soaps and things like that.”

There will also be crocheted items and cupcakes. Seniors have signed up to work the event and a visit from Santa Claus will take place between 10 a.m. and noon Saturday. Visitors are invited to bring their personal cameras and have photos taken.

Money is raised through this event and others to make Project Graduation a possibility.

“We did a dinner before at our fieldhouse here before the playoff game on Nov. 9,” Baker said. “We were given the opportunity to use the fieldhouse and we hosted a barbecue dinner and we made about $1,000 from that.”

She said they also do multiple 50/50 drawings at Cushing sporting events and plan to host a pancake breakfast in the future.

Project Graduation hosts an average of 100 seniors, Baker said. She said each student who attends will receive a prize. Prize donations, in addition to monetary donations, are welcome.
