STILLWATER, Okla. —
The Yale Fire Department is hosting its annual bean dinner Saturday.
Firefighter Josh Robinson said the event has been in existence for at least 10 years. The dinner assists some of the financial needs of the fire department.
“We have a Yale Volunteer Fire Association set up and the donations that come in go to (that),” Robinson said. “We vote on the stuff that we purchase that we think the department needs.”
The dinner, which includes white and brown beans, cornbread, a variety of desserts, tea, lemonade and coffee is free. The event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Yale firehouse. The fire department only asks for donations, Robinson said.
He said the department relies on the donations to purchase supplies for the department as well as training for firefighters.
“Without the event, it would be hard to do those extra activities as far as fire prevention and trying to keep our office up,” Robinson said. “We buy gear with the money, also.”
The event will feature a silent auction. The fire department is also looking for items to add to the auction.
“The weather is going to be nice (Saturday),” Robinson said. “I’d like to see a good turnout of people. It shows some support for our department. It keeps us excited and motivated to keep working on equipment and everything.”
