STILLWATER, Okla. — An Oklahoma State University professor injured when his bicycle collided with a car underwent successful surgery Friday morning to fix internal injuries.

The driver of the car was issued a citation for failure to yield. Police are still investigating the wreck.

Assistant Visiting Professor of English Seth Wood had successful surgery to deal with internal injuries in his abdomen. It is likely he will undergo several more surgeries in the coming days to deal with head injuries, said fellow professor and roommate John Steen.

Steen said that while Wood cannot speak due to his treatment he is conscious and responding to friends and family.

In the accident on Fourth Avenue Wednesday Wood sustained skull fractures and internal injuries to his spleen and gallbladder. Steen said doctors have there will likely not be significant brain damage but are waiting until the skull injuries have been better assessed to make a prognosis.

Steen and Wood went to school together at Emory University in Atlanta and recently relocated to Stillwater with Wood's wife.

A fund has been set up to help with Wood's medical expenses: www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/Seth-s-Road-to-Recovery/44411
