STILLWATER, Okla. —
New rules that went into effect in March mean students wanting to live in the Westwood neighborhood need to double-check their number of roommates.
Last summer, the Westwood Neighborhood Association pushed for occupancy limits in their neighborhood southwest of Oklahoma State University to roll back density problems.
The City Council approved a measure for an overlay district that will eventually roll back the total number of unrelated people living in a home. Unrelated residents are related by birth, marriage adoption or other official action.
Starting in March, no more than three unrelated people can live in a home unless the owner applied for a special occupancy permit. Under that permit, as many as six unrelated people can share a home until May 31, 2017. That number is then rolled back to four until May 31, 2022 when no more than three unrelated people can rent a home in the neighborhood.
The overlay district includes most of the area southwest of the campus with the exception of many of the homes on Admiral Street.
Below is a list of properties that have obtained a special occupancy permit.
