STILLWATER, Okla. —
Applications to park on the street in Stillwater’s Westwood subdivision are available online and will be mailed to subdivision property owners soon.
Westwood subdivision residents have been working with city officials for more than a year to create a Westwood Neighborhood Area Parking District and a Westwood Neighborhoold Conservation Overlay District.
The conservation district hopes to preserve existing single-family homes in the neighborhood. The parking district hopes to reduce traffic congestion and make it easier for emergency vehicles to navigate through the streets.
City councilors put the finishing touches on the parking district Monday night by amending fine structures to work more efficiently with the city clerk’s computer system and parking enforcement officers’ handheld computers, City Manager Dan Galloway said.
Parking ticket enforcement will begin Oct. 1. Vehicles parked on the parking district streets without a permit will be ticketed. The fine will be $30 if the ticket is paid within 48 hours — not including weekends and holidays. It will raise to $60 after 48 hours, according to an ordinance approved Monday.
Parking permits will be available for pick up on or after Sept. 17 at the Municipal Court Office in the Stillwater Muncipal Building, 723 S. Lewis St.
City of Stillwater External Director John McClenny said permit holders have a right to park within the parking district boundaries, but it doesn’t guarantee or reserve any on-street parking space in the district.
“Residents may transfer the parking permit from one vehicle to another, providing that the parking permit is property displayed,” McClenny said.
McClenny explained the application and permit purchase process.
• Property owners must submit one application per property, and pay a one-time $40 fee per property. The one-time fee is good as long as the same person owns the property.
• Two permits are allowed per property. Each annual permit costs $5. Payment of the application fee and permit fees are due when permits are picked up.
