Approximately 900 fed during Stillwater's Community Thanksgiving DInner

STILLWATER, Okla. — Dozens flocked to First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater for the annual Thanksgiving community meal. Workers spent several hours serving hot turkey dinners to hungry patrons.

The dining area, adorned with orange and yellow, was filled with conversation and live piano music.

Jim and Ann Enix each ate a plate of turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and green beans.

“With our children living as far away as they do ... we come down here and work and then we go ahead and eat and enjoy the company of the other people,” Ann said.

Volunteer Nettie Vick works with the church and community organizations serving meals. She said the holidays can be especially difficult on those with limited finances, physical problems or who are alone.

“It’s an awesome thing for Stillwater to support everyone who needs something to eat,” Vick said.

Andrew Ranson and his two children, Will and Jenna, volunteered and sat down to a meal together.

“I am thankful for a community that comes together to help those in need,” Ranson said. Jenna agreed, saying she was also thankful for chocolate cake.

Event organizer Pat Dorr, affectionately known by patrons as “Head Turkey,” said 250 volunteers          serve approximately 900 people every year. With so many mouths to feed, things get hectic.
