People react moments after a vehicle was driven into a crowd of people during the Oklahoma State University homecoming parade in Stillwater.

A traffic collision during the Oklahoma State University homecoming parade resulted in the deaths of four people and the injury of 47 others Saturday.

The collision occurred at 10:31 a.m. at the intersection of Hall of Fame Avenue and Main Street. That intersection was the termination point of the parade and was lined with spectators.

 A car driven by Stillwater resident Adacia Avery Chambers, 25, drove into a crowd of spectators striking numerous people as well as an unmanned police motorcycle. 

Chambers was arrested at the scene for Driving Under the Influence and remained in jail Sunday morning. 

Her initial appearance in Payne County District Court will likely be Monday.

Investigation into the cause of the collision continues and additional charges will be presented to the Payne County District Attorney’s office.

All  the first responders, the City of Stillwater and the Oklahoma State University family extend their deepest sympathy to the victims and their families.

The police department asks that anyone who witnessed the accident or who may have video evidence of the collision to please contact the department at 405-372-4171.
