Volleyball tops Tulsa Washington

TULSA — The No. 7 Stillwater High volleyball team comfortably defeated No. 8 Booker T. Washington on Thursday.

The Lady Pioneers lost the first game, 26-24, but rattled off wins of 25-14, 25-14 and 25-18 to claim the match.

“We had Game 1 in the bank,” said SHS coach Ryan Webber. “We were up 24-18 and lost 26-24. After that, I was curious to see how the girls would come out. We had a hard loss to Cascia Hall (on Tuesday), so to say I was worried is an understatement.

“We came out calm and collected and played well. I was really impressed with the way we played (Thursday).”

Jennifer Zhao recorded 24 digs, while Maria Grados added 10 and Maddie Field contributed seven.

Chelsey Huddleston had eight kills.

Webber said setter Amy Kangas “did a good job moving the ball around. It was good to see her get back in her leadership role.”

SHS (4-4) visits Tulsa Union on Tuesday.

Softball team loses

OWASSO — The No. 5 Owasso softball team routed No. 7 Stillwater High, 7-2, on Thursday night.

The Lady Pioneers (13-3) managed 12 hits in the game, but were scoreless until the final two innings.

“We had a couple of baserunning mistakes,” said SHS coach Angela Knott. “We just didn’t collect the hits all together. We just couldn’t seem to put it all together.”

Brittany Geter fell to 7-2 in the circle, but was 4-for-4 with a double at the plate.

Shelbi Redfearn and Jerika Rosenquist both had two hits. Kayla Bunney was a pinch hitter who went 1-for-2, recording an RBI.

Chelsea Fort also drove in a run.

Stillwater visits Sapulpa on Monday.
