Leon “Grump” Bateson

Leon “Grump” Bateson, 73, of Stillwater, passed from this life on Wednesday, Sept.  12, 2012.  Services are under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home and will be held at 10:30 on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 in the Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. with    family to greet friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

 Leon was born on April 2, 1939 to George and Tillie Bateson in Vinco, Okla.  He was raised and educated in the Perkins area, graduating from Perkins High School.   On May 21, 1960, he married the love of his life      Glenda (Bentley) Bateson in Coyle, a union that lasted 52 years.  In 1965, Leon started Leon’s Auto Trim and Glass in Stillwater which he still operated until his passing.  He was an Eagle, and a member of the Elks Lodge as well as volunteering his time and cooking skills for various charities including Judith Karmen Hospice.  Leon enjoyed competing in car shows and restoring old vehicles.  Most mornings Leon could be found at his shop drinking coffee and reminiscing with friends.  His greatest project, however, was helping to raise his   grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.

 Leon is survived by his wife Glenda of the home, children Kimberly Randolph and husband Jason of   Broken Arrow, and Brent Bateson and wife Jeana of Stillwater; siblings John Bateson of Perkins, Bonnie Bowden and husband Joe of Nowata, Janelle Punches and husband Bob of Portland, Texas, and Gary Bateson and wife Phyllis of Sapulpa; grandchildren Caden Cowles, Jase Randolph, Hunter Bateson, and Hannah Bateson, as well as his beloved dog Missy, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

 In addition to his parents George and Tillie Bateson, Leon was preceded in death by siblings Wanita Bateson, Richard Bateson, Annabelle Pennington, and Pauline Harting.
