Rose Marie Carnefix

Rose Marie Carnefix, 74, died peacefully on April 16, 2013, with her family by her side. She finally succumbed in her battle with ovarian cancer after proving to be an inspiration to many when she survived cervical cancer, lung cancer and colon cancer.

Her funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater. A reception will be held at the Stillwater Eagles Aerie at 4 p.m. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 5-6:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Rose Marie was born on Oct. 15, 1938, in Seattle to Anthony Samuel and Nettie Maxine (Niles) Gamba. On Aug. 20, 1960, she married the love of her life, Jack Henderson Carnefix, in Carson City, Nev.

She was honored to be a Navy wife as Jack’s 21-year career as a United States naval aviator took them from California to Massachusettes and back, then to Oklahoma and Texas where he retired, and they moved back to Oklahoma.

She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1991, when she became a charter member of auxiliary #4277 in Stillwater. She took great pride in having her name in their records on official charter receipt #001, and she held almost every local chair, including the past 15 years as secretary. She chaired the annual Mother’s Day Brunch, one of many ways she worked to increase the visibility and involvement of the Eagles in her local community. Rose Marie served the Oklahoma State Auxiliary as State Madam President twice, becoming the only president to have succeeded herself. She previously served as Inside Guard and Chaplain, and was State Secretary the past three years. She was inducted into the Oklahoma State Auxiliary Hall of Fame in 2013. She also held national offices, serving as Grand Auxiliary Conductor (2006-07) and as Grand Auxiliary Secretary (2007-08), traveling across the United States and Canada. She was inducted into the Grand Auxiliary Hall of Fame Award in 2012.

Rose Marie was proud to have been a part of the Oklahoma State University athletic ticket office for more than 20 years. She originally agreed to help out for two weeks, and retired as athletic ticket manager in 1997.

She was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, holding several local offices for Stillwater Moose Lodge 2089, including Senior Regent in 1979. She was invested into the College of Regents at the Annual International Conference in 1981.

Rose Marie is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jack, of Perkins; son, Jack Henderson Carnefix II, and his wife, Rashel, who Rose Marie called her daughter, of Pueblo, Colo.; sister, Antonette Nelson (Russ Haag); and brothers, Anthony (Gloria) Gamba, and Timothy Gamba.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Rodney.

In lieu of flowers, Rose Marie requested that donations be made in her name to the Art Ehrmann Cancer Fund. Please send donations to Auxiliary #4277, P.O. Box 224, Stillwater, OK, 74076.

Checks should be made payable to F.O.E. Charity Foundation with the Art Ehrmann Cancer Fund in honor of Rose Marie Carnefix in the MEMO line.
