Darrell Lee Carr

Darrell Lee Carr, a longtime Cushing resident, passed away on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, in his home at the age of 81 years.

Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing and will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday in the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with Pastor Kevin Clouse officiating.  Burial will follow in the Euchee Valley Memorial Park.

The son of the late Roy Lee Carr and Eleanor (Dunn) Carr, Darrell was born on March 16, 1932, in Qualls.  Darrell grew up in the Tahlequah and Ingalls area, moving to Ingalls at age 13. When he was 17, Darrell moved to Cushing and began working for the Burkey Creamery and when he was 18 he began his life’s career working in the oilfield. The oilfield was Darrell’s life. He worked in many different capacities ranging from laborer, fracking foreman to tool pusher. Darrell worked for various companies throughout the area. including Oklahoma Fracturing, Tiny’s Acid Service, Serfco, Oklahoma Oil Well Fracturing, Spess Oil Co., Martin Tank Trucks, Lloyd Boyles, and eventually Arrow Pump & Supply.

If Darrell wasn’t working in the oilfield then you might find him at Stiles pond, (his favorite fishing hole), gardening or at a local casino.

Darrell was united in marriage to Geraldean “Geri” Akins on Sept. 27, 1952, in Drumright, and to this union two daughters, Cynthia and Darylita were born.  Darrell and Geri were longtime members of the First Christian Church in Cushing.  Geri preceded him in death on April 5, 2009, after 57 years of marriage.

Survivors include his two daughters, Cynthia Carr of Perkins and Darylita Carr Ware and her husband Steven of Little Rock, Ark.; four sisters, Allene Redus of Oklahoma City, Lorene Whitaker of Mannford, Sandra Davidson and her husband Ralph of Checotah, and Marilyn Marple of Kansas City, Kans.; three grandchildren, Chad Harris and his wife Kathy, Nathan Ware, and Spencer Ware; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Darrell was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
