Nelwyne Berry

Nelwyne Berry passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 13, 2012, in the Hillcrest Hospital Cushing at the age of 77 years.

The daughter of the late Russell Bledsoe and Eva Walker Bledsoe, Nelwyne was born on Nov. 15, 1934 in Ripley, Okla.  She lived in Cushing most of her early life, attending Cushing Schools and later Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

She was united in marriage to Jack Berry on June 22, 1951 in Cushing and to this union two daughters, Gwenn and Diana were born.  The couple had lived in Yale for 52 years prior to his death in 2003.

Nelwyne had worked for over 10 years as an accountant for Berry Chevrolet in Yale.  She was a longtime member of the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church; she served as the Deacon’s wives coordinator for the Tulsa Catholic Diocese for several years.  She helped  establish the Cushing genealogy society and was a member of the Oklahoma and Cherokee genealogy     society; Past President of the Yale Study Club and Past President of the Rural Letter Carrier Ladies Society; a member of the D.A.R. in Cushing.  She taught Sunday School for 27 years and was Saints Peter and Paul woman of the year in 1990.  She also enjoyed playing cards, especially bunko with her family and friends and traveling.

Survivors include her daughters, Gwenn Reams and her husband Rick of Yale, and Diana Meyers and her husband Robert of Cushing; grandchildren, Heather Sinclair of Yale, Robin Collier and her husband Levi of Cushing, Jacob Meyers of Stillwater and Marcie Lee Meyers of Stillwater; great-grandchildren, Austin Reams of Yale, Gage Sinclair of Yale, Mylie Grunder of Michigan, Ivan Collier of Cushing and Clarice Collier of Cushing; cousin Noel McGee and his wife Sarah of Bartlesville; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, including a very set of special friends who would visit her every week.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was      preceded in death by one brother Jackie Bledsoe and two grandsons Heath and Joshua Reams.

Rosary services will be Thursday evening, Oct. 18, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. with Funeral Mass on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.  Services will be conducted at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Burial will follow in the Ingalls Cemetery at Ingalls, Okla.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church food pantry, 214 North Steele, Cushing, OK, 74023.
