Memorial service for Richard Ervin Lampe, age 64, of Commerce, will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 at the Student Center Conference Room of Texas A&M University with Dr. Lavelle Hendricks officiating. Dr. Lampe passed away peacefully at his home with loving family at his side, Monday, Oct. 29, 2012. He was born Oct. 31, 1947 in Okla., the son of Ervin and Dorothy Nemec Lampe. He was married to Susan Gish Lampe, on Aug. 11, 1979 in Stillwater, Okla.
Dr. Lampe was Professor Emeritus of Counseling at Texas A&M University-Commerce for 22 years. In his career, he received the TACD Presidential Award for Leadership as Chair of Accreditation by the Certification Committee, was the TACES President from 1986-1987, received the Texas Association of College Teachers Award and Neill Humfeld Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award for 1991-1992. In 1992, Richard led the Counseling Department CACREP self-study for accreditation for his department, and was also the ACA Southern Region Chairman and Governing Councilman from 1994-1995. He was awarded with the TAMU-Commerce Faculty Senate Distinguished Faculty Award for Service in May 2006. He also received the Truax Award from TCA in 2009. He was the president of TACD in 1988-1989 and president of Texas Association for Assessment in Counseling from 1993-1994. In 2009 he was accredited with TACES for Outstanding Counselor Educator. Dr. Lampe also successfully designed the logo for TCA.
In addition to Richard’s distinguished professional life, he was a devoted and loving father and husband. He had a great passion for architectural design and decorating, gardening, and the art of watercolor painting. In his time away from the University, he made numerous home improvements and was considered by his family and friends to be a Master Chef, for he loved cooking, baking especially. Richard also enjoyed traveling and exploring the world with his family. He is survived by his wife, Susan, and his 2 loving daughters, Blair Norene Lampe, of N.Y, and Emily Gish Lampe, of Washington D.C. He is also survived by his nieces, Tamara Puttman and husband Darrell of S.C., and Michelle Armitage of S.C., and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Ervin and Dorothy and his sister Norene Lampe Williams. Richard loved his family and his career and will be greatly missed by many.
