Gladys Going

Gladys Going, 99, of Choctaw died April 2 at her home in Choctaw.

Her funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church with Rev. Ron Flowers officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gladys was born Feb. 23, 1915, to Alva Monroe Tefertiller and Lela Jane Hickman in Pawnee.

She moved a short time later to Quay, an oil boom town north of Yale. She was an outstanding student throughout her school years and was a member of both basketball and the debate teams in high school.

Gladys married her childhood sweetheart, Raymond Going, on June 12, 1936. They moved to Stillwater where he worked in the taxi business with his uncle, purchasing it after his death. Gladys had an active career in business and retail. She also served one year as president of Altrusa, a business women’s club. When both Raymond and Gladys retired, there was time to enjoy a couple of cruises, traveling in their van across the United States, and two weeks in Hawaii. Being avid OSU basketball fans, they held season tickets for years.

The Goings were active members of the First Christian Church for more than 65 years. Gladys taught their Galilean Sunday school class for many years.

She was also a deacon and a lay preacher.

When they moved to Choctaw in 2004, they became members of Faith Community Christian Church, making many new friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, parents, four brothers and one sister.

She is survived by their children, Patricia Rae East and her husband, Cliff, of Choctaw, and one son, Gary Paul Going and his wife Donna of Plano, Texas, four grandchildren, Stacey Blevins and her husband Jim; Penny Garcia and her husband, Adam; Scott Going and his wife Robin; Larry East and his wife Shelly; seven great-grandchildren, Braden, Jarad and Nathan East, Sarah and Scotty Going and Jacob and Bryson Blevins, and several loved nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made in Gladys name to First Christian Church, 411 W. Matthews Ave., Stillwater, OK, 74075, or Faith Community Christian Church, 2221 Nichols Dr., Nicoma Park, OK, 73066
