Dr. B. Curtis Hamm

Dr. B. Curtis Hamm, Professor Emeritus of the Spears School of Business and Consultant to the Oklahoma State University Foundation, died Feb. 5 from kidney failure.

The second son of Jewell and Curtis Jon Hamm, Bob embraced education at a very young age and found it literally opened the entire world to a boy who grew up and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City.

Hamm received his undergraduate marketing degree from Oklahoma A&M in 1955 and, after a military obligation and time in the executive development program at IBM, an MBA from Oklahoma State in 1962.

Encouraged by his mentors, he continued his educational studies, receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Texas in 1966.

Hamm touched the minds and imaginations of students as a Fellow at numerous academic institutions, including the American Graduate School of Business, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Missouri and Oklahoma State University.

He served as a Fulbright professor in China and an USAID professor at the University of Jordan, where he helped begin the MBA programs.

He additionally served as a consultant to various universities in Argentina and the Czech Republic and as a professor at Oklahoma City University. He was also the first Rotary Fellow to Jordan.

While Hamm’s impact on the knowledge and love of education for students was worldwide, his heart was always with Oklahoma State University.

For more than 50 years, Hamm held a variety of professorial positions within the College of Business and the university’s Foundation and introduced the importance of service to students through his support of student activities and organizations. He took an active role in mentoring and was recognized in a variety of ways, including being selected for the National International Student Association Award as a Distinguished OSU Alumni Award winner, as the Redskin Yearbook Faculty Member of the Year and as the Blue Key National Faculty Advisor of the Year.

Hamm served as a consultant to numerous organizations, including NASA, PepsiCo and Reynolds Aluminum.

He published numerous academic and trade articles on international subjects.

His book, “The Art of Partnering,” was used internationally as a text for college sales courses, and he wrote internationally acclaimed articles such as “The Five Dragons of Asia.”

Other recognitions of Hamm’s impact on the lives of others include his induction into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame and the Capitol Hill High School Hall of Fame.

Dr. Bob Hamm is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James.

He is survived by his son, Kevin, daughter-in-law Aring and their sons Curtis and Lucas of GuangZhou, China, as well as his nephew James Hamm, wife Carmen and their son Ryan of Edmond.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Life Church in Stillwater.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Dr. B. Curtis Hamm Marketing Endowed Scholarship Fund at Oklahoma State University Foundation, 400 S. Monroe, Stillwater, OK, 74074.
