Betty Lee Morton

After a long and fruitful life of loving service to her family and friends, Betty Lee Morton, 80, of Stillwater, Okla., was called home to be with her Savior on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013.  Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 19 at   Benson Memorial Chapel, 100 S. Barker, El Reno, Okla., with Rev. Johnny Cawlfield officiating.  Huber-Benson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Betty was born Jan. 15, 1933 in Calumet, Oklahoma to Joseph Froman and Vera Henrietta (Zigler) Phillips. She grew up as the youngest of eight children on the family farm in rural Calumet.  She accepted Christ as a young girl and was a member of the Red Rock United Methodist Church.  Betty married Thomas Morton Jr. on Dec. 3, 1955 in El Reno, where they lived for many years before moving to Stillwater in 1998 to be near their only grandson, Matthew.  She worked all of her life, as a waitress while raising her children and later in medical services at Parkview Hospital and Sherwood Medical Supply in the El Reno area.

Betty enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and crafting, and delighted in blessing others with gifts she created. A natural caregiver, she graciously assisted others in need. She cherished her friends and family, especially her grandson, Matthew. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and will be greatly missed.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom, in 2003; son, Thomas Morton III in 1978; brother, Earl; sisters, Rachel, Marguerite, Louise, and twins Irene and Aline.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly and husband Jim of Ripley; her grandson Cpl. Matthew Bullington, USMC, of Stillwater; sister Lois Phillips of Stillwater; special friends, Katie Baker, Ila Bell, Carmen Frazier, Alice Johnson, David Spencer, Gerald Dyer and Larry Ellis; as well as many other beloved friends, nieces and nephews.

Condolences may be e-mailed to the family at         bettyloujean@gmail.com.
