Mark C. Boyles

Mark C. Boyles, 58, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, in Tulsa. A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Strode Funeral Home in Stillwater.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at the Lost Creek United Methodist Church with Pastor Arron Grantz officiating. Interment will follow at Euchee Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in Cushing. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mark was born on Aug. 8, 1954 in Guam, Mariana Islands to Donald and Juanita (Pilgrim) Boyles. He graduated from Stillwater High School in 1972 before going on to attend Oklahoma State University. In 1976, he married Maria Brandana in Stillwater. Mark graduated from OSU with his bachelor’s degree in 1977, and again in 1979 with a master’s degree in agronomy. After graduation, he began a career with Sandoz and BASF Agricultural companies that spanned for 25 years as a research scientist until 2002. He had many patents and awards during this time, and in 2002, he created ProSearch One. In 2004, Mark went back to OSU as a faculty member and worked in the Research and Extension for Plant and Soil Science Department. While there, he co-developed and implemented the Okanola Project.

From 1987 until 2005, Mark owned the Ghost Hollow Christmas Tree Farm in Ripley, and he donated the proceeds to the American Diabetes Association for kid camps. He was a member of such organizations as The Western, The Northern and The Southern Weed Science Society where he served on several committees in 1992 through 1996 as well as in 1999, the U.S. Canola Growers Association, and the Oklahoma Golf Course Superintendent Association. Mark was also a member of the Ripley United Methodist Church.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Boyles.

He is survived by his father, Donald Boyles of Ripley; wife of 37 years, Maria Boyles of Ripley; son, Brandon Boyles of Stillwater and his fiancée Shelly Geiger of Edmond; daughter, Katie Boyles, of Ripley; brother, Matt Boyles, and his wife, Teresa of Perkins; Mother-n-law, Velma Brandana of Stillwater nephew, Tyler Boyles of Tulsa; nephew, Ryan Boyles, and his wife, Leah of Stillwater; Janice and Al Garbert and family of Broken Arrow; Sharon and Conn Berkenbile and family of Broken Arrow; Lucia and Rex Winchester and family of Arizona; and many more nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mark’s name to the Ripley United Methodist Church at P.O. Box 354, Ripley, OK 74062 or the American Diabetes Association at 3000 United Founders Boulevard, #108, Oklahoma City, OK 73112.
