Paul J. Buchanan

Paul J. Buchanan, 63 of Duncan, Okla., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012.  Services  will be held   Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, 10:00 A.M. at  St. Benedict Catholic Church.  Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Walker Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Paul J. Buchanan was born November 18, 1949 in Shawnee, Okla., the son of Lee Roy and Dorothy Buchanan. He attended St. Benedict Catholic School. Paul lived in Shawnee most of his life. In 2008, he moved to Duncan and lived at the Country Club Care Nursing Home until his death. Despite challenges placed in his life at an early age, Paul was happy, maintained a positive attitude and was able to make a lasting impression on those who came in contact with him and those who cared for him. He enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, playing bingo and checkers, listening to music and attending Mass at St. Benedict’s while he was able. His smile was big, genuine and brightened the room and the lives around him. Despite his challenges, Paul loved to read and was the family’s source of information on medical terms and conditions. It was amazing his depth of knowledge but always fun to witness his pride at being able to educate those without his knowledge. He looked forward to challenging his brothers in checkers and would tell them he would “kick their butt”. That comment always brought a smile to everyone since it was so out of character for Paul.

He was preceded in death by his parents, many aunts, uncles, and cousins in the Shawnee area.                                                                                                           Paul is survived by three Brothers:  Tony Buchanan and wife Beth of Stillwater, Rick Buchanan and wife Karla of Duncan,  Phil Buchanan and wife Dana of Duncan; Three Nieces: Lauren Buchanan of New York City, Haylee Buchanan of Fayetteville, Ark., Ashleigh Buchanan of Duncan; One Nephew: Aaron Buchanan and wife Kimberlee of Bethany  And many cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Benedict Catholic Church Building Fund or a local hospice agency.
