— Larry Leon Smith, 71, died on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, in Stillwater. His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Chaffin officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

On Nov. 23, 1941, Larry was born in Independence, Kan., to the late Donald Leon and Thelma “Susie” Lucille (Toomey) Smith. He graduated from Independence High School in the late 1950’s before joining the Navy and honorably serving his country for several years. He eventually became an electronic technician for AT&T. Larry married the love of his life, Janet Louise Stouder, on July 16, 1966, in Independence, Kan. Together, they lovingly raised their two sons, Scott and Todd, and enjoyed 47 years of marriage. He enjoyed fishing, coaching little league and meeting with friends once a week to visit. Larry was a big fan of Pioneer football, and a lover of all things OSU, especially OSU football, basketball and baseball. He was also a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ron Smith.

Larry is survived by his wife, Janet Smith, of Stillwater; son, Scott Smith, and his wife, Dixie, of Alma, Ark.; son, Todd Smith, and his wife, Lori, of New Braunfels, Texas; and two grandchildren, Aaron and Elena Smith, of New Braunfels, Texas.
