Patrick Wayne Sawyer, 65, of Stillwater passed away on Wednesday.
He was born in Tulsa on Aug. 5, 1948, to the late Lawrence and Lois Sawyer.
He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1968 and was stationed in Alaska until 1972.
He returned to Oklahoma and found the love of his life Claudia Jackson. They were married in 1974 and had 39 happy years together.
He retired from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol in 2010 after 22 years of service as a dispatcher with the rank of second lieutenant.
He was an accomplished musician, artist and an avid outdoorsman. He played traditional Irish music several times a week at his favorite spot, Sean Cummings Irish Pub, in Oklahoma City.
People traveled from all over the country to listen to him play.
He had a large and loyal following.
Patrick and Claudia are blessed with five children: David, Katie and Ashley, Amanda and James, Steven and Molli, Megan and Peter and their granddaughter Alice with one more on the way.
He is survived by his children and his brothers, Larry and his wife, Kim, and Ron and his wife, Virginia; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kathy and Jim Louis, Randy Jackson, Vicki Jackson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A wake will be held at the Oklahoma Historical Society and History Center, from 6-8:30 p.m. Mondayat 800 Nazih Zuhdi Drive, Oklahoma City, OK 73105 on the second floor in the atrium. Any and all are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers the family would request any donations be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
