Theodore “Ted” Wesley McNamer

Theodore “Ted” Wesley McNamer passed away on Dec. 19, 2013, in Perkins. Services have been entrusted to the care of Strode Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating Ted’s life will be held in the Strode Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, with Pastors Lorn Starling and Lonnie McKinzie officiating. Interment will follow at Coyle Cemetery.

Ted was born to Martha Alice (Knight) and Floyd Henry McNamer on Feb. 20, 1933, in a railroad section house in Vinco. He first attended Goodnight Community School.

Ted enlisted in the Army on Nov. 28, 1951. He retired in August 1975, after proudly serving 20 years and earning numerous medals and awards. Ted was proud to have defended our country in the Vietnam War and Korean War.

While taking a four-year breakfrom the Army, he had the opportunity to work several jobs in Chicago, including Coleman Cable Company, Major Foundry and for a detective agency that assisted the Chicago Police as Suburban Patrol.

Ted committed his life to Christ in the spring of 1952. He loved his Lord and Savior.

He married the love of his life, Betty Elizabeth Borders, on Dec. 12, 1955, in Corinth, Miss.

They lovingly raised two children, Bertha Elizabeth and Wesley Dale, and spent many wonderful years together until her passing earlier this year.

Ted was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was very proud of this family.

Ted enjoyed the outdoors. He loved riding horses and spending time at his cabin.

He also enjoyed playing the fiddle. He began playing when he was just 8 years old in his school orchestra.

He was later kicked out for playing Turkey in the Straw. Ted continued to play his fiddle with numerous country and western bands, Gospel groups, and with various individuals while serving in the military.

He was very proud of the time he spent playing with each person and was especially fond of the time he spent playing with Edon Hill Gospel Singers and Country Touch. Ted continued playing the fiddle until his passing.

He was a man of great character, always standing up for what he believed. He was very organized and orderly and enjoyed routine.

He would always tell everyone he was born 50 years too late. He enjoyed the “olden days.”

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to everyone who has prayed for Ted.

They would also like to thank Lorn and Delores Starling and the staff of Judith Karmen Hospice for their wonderful kindness and excellent care.

Ted is survived by his daughter, Bertha Short, and son Wesley McNamer and wife, Marie, of Perkins; five grandchildren: Derek Short and wife, Shila, of Oklahoma City; Wesley McNamer, Jr. and wife, Shayla, of Sand Springs; Krystal Smola and husband, Justin, of Perkins; Amanda Calvert and husband, Justin, of Edmond; Michael McNamer and wife, Crystal, of Stillwater; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Julia Elizabeth McKee, and many nieces and nephews.

Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents, Martha and Floyd; brother, Floyd Henry McNamer Jr; sister, Lola Alice McNamer; and son-in-law, Howard Eugene Short.

Pallbearers will be Derek Short, Wesley McNamer, Michael McNamer, Justin Smola, Gene McKee and Josh McKee. Larry McKee will be honorary pallbearer.
