Kent Floyd Carmain

Kent Floyd Carmain, 88, passed away at his home in Stillwater on June 2.

His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Strode Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Anderson officiating.

Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Kent was born in Chanute, Kan., Oct. 15, 1925.

He was the second son of Floyd and Hazel Carmain.

The family moved to Stillwater in 1930 where he attended grade school, junior high and high school before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, following the attack on Pearl Harbor. After the war, he returned to Stillwater to attend Oklahoma A&M College (OSU).

He then went to work for the Air Force, with assignments at Wright Patterson Field, Ohio; Warner Robbins AFB, Ga.; and Mallory AFB, Memphis, Tenn.

He was also on the team for the Martin Company that brought the Titan II missiles to Arkansas at Little Rock Air Force Base.

He then transferred to the Army Corps of Engineers in 1967, where he retired in 1984.

After retirement, he was involved in the Big Rock Evangelistic Association in Arkansas and the Church Builders. Upon returning to Stillwater in 2003, he volunteered with Mobile Meals where he also served on the board, Payne County Historical Society, Stephan Ministries, VFW Post 2027 where he was a lifetime member, and the Payne County Animal Rescue Shelter.

He was also a lifetime member of the Stillwater High School Alumni Association.

He was baptised into Christ in 1936 and has always been a member of the Christian Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Primetimers Class of Sunnybrook Christian Church, Stillwater.

He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Camilla and Eleanor Ann; and one brother, Craig.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (formerly Dorothy Gelder) of almost 70 years, and three daughters and their families, Dawn and Pete Frye, Melanie and Kristina of Rowlett, Texas; Linda “Gayle” Carmain of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Camilla and Mickey Stafford, Caleb and Amy Stafford, Carla and Jeff and Addison MacDonald, all of Fayetteville, Tenn.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family members whom he loved very much.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Primetimers Class c/o Sunnybrook Christian Church, 421 E. Richmond Road, Stillwater, OK, 74074.
