Jane Collins Remnsnider

Jane Collins Remnsnider, 72, passed away April 5 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Her funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater with Kent Houck officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Stillwater. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jane was born Jan. 1, 1942, in Oklahoma City to Warren and Mary Jane (Collins) Remnsnider. She lived most of her life in Stillwater, graduating from Stillwater High School in 1960. She earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Oklahoma State University in 1964. Jane was a graduate student at Tulane University in New Orleans, La. She also studied for several summers at the University of Mexico in Mexico City. During her college years at OSU, she worked at the Platter Shop in the Student Union, befriending everyone who came through the door.

Jane worked for the Department of Human Services in Oklahoma City and Stillwater, retiring after 25 years of service. She later worked as a realtor at Century 21 and Grindstaff Agency.

Jane was a proud Democrat and a longtime member of Altrusa, a women’s civic organization. She especially enjoyed traveling to other countries, meeting new and interesting people while gaining knowledge and respect for all cultures. Some of the countries she experienced were India, Russia, France, Italy, Turkey, Greece, England and China.

She considered the Hong family of Stillwater to be her “adopted” family.

Known as “Nini” to the Hong children, Jane was their beloved godmother.

When Joanne graduated from high school, Jane’s gift to her was a trip to Europe.

She accompanied Joanne on that trip. She faithfully attended all music and gymnastics competitions the children were involved in, traveling with the family as far west as San Diego, Calif., and as far east as Savannah, Ga.

Jane was an avid reader and liked researching information about almost any subject, then sharing that information, as well as giving constructive suggestions to her family and friends.

She was compassionate and caring, often helping others through difficult life situations.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. Jane is survived by her adopted family, I.T. and Jannie Hong and their children, Andrew and Joanne Hong.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to a charity of choice.

Condolences may be emailed to the family and an online obituary may be viewed by visiting www.strodefh.com.
