Charles Porter, Jr.

Charles Porter, Jr., 90, died on Aug. 13, 2012 in Stillwater, Okla. Family will greet friends on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012 at Strode Funeral Home from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012 at the Sunnybrook Christian Church in Stillwater, Okla., with Paul Anderson             officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Charles was born on March 31, 1922 in Guthrie, Okla., to Charles H., Sr. and Kate M. (Adams) Porter. After graduating high school, he went on to become a dairy farmer as well as the owner of his own insurance company. Charles also joined the United States Air Force, serving during World War II. He married Alta Luvina Flowers in Stillwater, Oklahoma on June 14, 1942. He enjoyed playing the guitar and fiddle, and he was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a charter member of Sunnybrook Christian Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Thelma Cullers; two brothers, Veryl F. Porter and Meryl L. Porter; and daughter-in-law, Connie Porter.

He is survived by his wife, Alta Luvina Porter; son, Charles H. Porter, III; son, Johnnie Lee Porter, and wife, Patti; grandson, Charles H. Porter, IV, and wife, Sherylynn; granddaughter, Jaylon Janette Martin, and husband, Micheal; granddaughter, Shandra Dawn Porter; granddaughter, Tressa Denise Diesselhorst, and husband, Jacob; three great-grandchildren, Gabriel Jacob and Hannah Elizabeth Diesselhorst, and Abigail Grace Porter; one brother, Franklin Max Porter, and wife, June; and numerous relatives and friends.   

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Primetimers Class at Sunnybrook Christian Church, 421 E. Richmond Rd., Stillwater, OK 74074, or the Stillwater VFW, PO Box 765, Stillwater, OK 74076.
