Imogene Davis French, 93, of Dighton, Kan., died Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Lane County Long Term Care Unit in Dighton.
Visitations are scheduled to be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday and from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Monday at Strode Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pastor Vanoy Fitch of 7th Day Adventist Church in Stillwater will be officiating.
Imogene was born on Oct. 16, 1919, in Hempstead County, Ark., to Hinton Charles and Mary (Owen) Davis.
She was from a family of seven children, all learning the lessons of the depression days and working hard on the family farm and vegetable nursery.
She married Robert Earl French in Dallas, Texas, on June 20, 1954. After their marriage, Imogene and her husband moved to Stillwater, where they farmed and ranched until moving to Dighton, Kan., in 1997. They enjoyed 49 years of marriage before Robert’s death on Dec. 27, 2003.
Imogene dearly loved her cats, who provided much needed companionship. She enjoyed watching things grow and beautifying her yard with many flowers.
Imogene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Marshall and Wallace; and sister, Mildred.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Chinburg, and husband Paul, of Dighton, Kan.; son, Robert Alan French, and his wife, Valentina, of Lafayette, Ind.; and three sisters, Wilma Lee of San Diego, Calif., Joyce Davis of Albertville, Ala., and Frances Patterson of Hope, Ark.
