Charles Leroy Dorsey died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, after a short battle with glioblastoma multiforme, the most aggressive form of brain cancer. Charles was born on June 27, 1948, to Darlene Herndon Dorsey and Vester Eugene Dorsey in Drumright. He graduated from Cushing High School in 1966. Charles went on to further his education at Central State University and Oklahoma State University.
In 1969, he moved to Pawhuska and began his career in the insurance business working for Metropolitan and ultimately opened his own agency. He served the wonderful community of Pawhuska in the insurance business for 26 years. He owned Dorsey Insurance until 2000, at which time he began a new chapter in life working for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections at Dick Conner Correctional Center in Hominy, where he worked up until the time of his death.,
Also in 1969, he met his beloved wife, Marilyn (Wade), at the drive-in movies. They dated for the next four years and were married on Aug. 11, 1973. She was the ultimate love of his life, and they were a testament of true love each and every day. You would rarely see one of them without the other.
Charles and Marilyn had two children, hristopher Dorsey and Dymisha Schneider. He was a wonderful father who never once missed a basketball game, baseball game or gymnastics meet. You could often find him coaching his children’s baseball or softball teams every summer. Charles looked forward to hunting trips with his son every fall. On Sunday afternoons, he’d play in a local church slow pitch league, coaching and pitching.
Charles was the happiest man, living a full life with his family each and every day. He was very active in the First United Methodist Church, serving on various committees and teaching young adult Sunday School classes. He loved God with all his heart and all his might. In 2005, Charles became a grandpa for the first time in his life, and he completely loved every minute he spent with his grandson, Cade. They’d go fishing, shoot BB guns, visit Woolaroc and Osage Hills and hosted “Grandpa Camp” every year for his grandson. He enjoyed OSU sports and attended sporting events in Stillwater every chance he had. His other hobbies hunting,fishing and old cars.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Marilyn, of the home; his son, Christopher Dorsey and wife, Alicia, of Owasso; his daughter, Dymisha Schneider and husband, Scott, and grandson, Cade Schneider, all of Stillwater; one brother, Don Dorsey and wife, Kathy, of Carencro, La.; one sister, Debbie Wilson and husband, Franklin, of Amarillo, Texas; half- brother, Jim Long and wife, Carol of Medera, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Loyd and Leona Herndon; his paternal grandparents, Roy and Lizzie Dorsey; his mother, Darlene Herndon Dorsey; his father, Vester Eugene Dorsey and his brother, Gene Dorsey.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church of Pawhuska. Pastor Kathy Morris will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Carl Brown. Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.
