James Arthur Jackson Sr.

James Arthur Jackson, Sr., 70, died on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 in Stillwater. Funeral services will be held at 11  a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Stillwater. Pastor Calvin Miller will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James was born Feb. 18, 1942, to Joe Jackson and Beatrice Vick in Stillwater. He joined the U.S. Army in April 1960 where he attained the rank of staff sergeant. He was honorably discharged April 1968. While in the Army, James met Clara Bolden. They married on Dec. 23, 1963 in Stillwater and were married for 49 years. James and Clara had two children, James Jr. and Betty. After discharge, James worked for the city of Stillwater for 35 years, until his retirement.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Beatrice Jackson; two brothers, Ray and Elmer Jackson; and two sisters, Betty Bolden and JoAnn Jackson.

He is survived by his wife of the home, Clara Jackson; son, James Jackson, Jr. and his wife, Chelly; daughter, Betty Jackson; sisters, Bobbi Lewis and Wilma Vick; three grandsons, Tony Johnson, and Nathan and Ryan Jackson; two step-grandchildren, Alex and Virginia; and numerous nephews, nieces, friends and extended family.
