Hazel Madeline Westgate Gleason

Hazel Madeline Westgate Gleason, 87, passed away on January 29, 2013 in Stillwater, Okla. She was born on Oct. 7, 1925 to Donald and Nellie (Allen) Westgate at the home of her maternal grandparents, Frank and Ivy Allen, near Manhattan, Kan. Hazel, better known as Bobbie, graduated from Manhattan High School in 1943. She started her working career as an 18 year old riveter in the Aero Parts Plant in Wichita, Kan. in 1944. She later spent 7 years working at the Topeka, Kan. Public Library, and afterwards, 15 years in general printing at the Fleming Co. from which she retired in 1988. On July 13, 1946, she eloped and married Harold Frank Gleason in Raton, N.M. Harold and Bobbie traveled all over the U.S. in their motor homes.  They spent their Golden Years as Winter Texans at Green State Park in Mission, Texas for 18 years, and enjoyed cruises to Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean and Europe. Bobbie loved sports, water skiing, bowling and dancing. She was a member of the Lowman Methodist Church in Topeka, Kan.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Ivalee Westgate, age 8; brother, Ellsworth “Toby” Westgate, age 66; and Wilfred Westgate, age 79, who left behind his wife, Teresa (Randall) Westgate, of Mission, Texas.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Harold Frank Gleason, of Baldwin, Kan.; two sons, Nickylee Gleason, and wife, Rita, of Stillwater, Okla. and Dennis Gleason, and wife, Kay, of Topeka, Kan.; four grandchildren, Meagan Hill, and husband, Brad, of Bath, N.Y., and Misty Nimz, and husband, Charles, Tammy Gleason, and Daniel Gleason, all of Topeka, Kan.; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters,  Winifred Trotter and husband, Joseph, of St. George, Kan. and Jessie Ruddell, and husband, Dr. Jay, of Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers, Myron Westgate, and wife, Nancy, of St. George, Kan. and Danny Westgate, and wife, Virginia, of Wamego, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
