John Carey “Jack” Shanklin, 95, passed away Feb. 18, 2013, at Grace Living Center in Stillwater. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Fairfax Cemetery in Fairfax. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jack was born June 28, 1917, in Fairfax to Carey R. Shanklin and Polly Sanford. He married Cleota Harvey on Dec. 23, 1939, in Kan. Jack held a business degree from Oklahoma State University and managed engineering duplicating for 30 years. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Jack was active in numerous Masonic organizations and brought the first “Okie Dokie” Shrine car to the annual OSU Homecoming parade.

He is predeceased by his wife, Cleota; parents; sister, Dorothy Carrick; and brother, Donald Shanklin.

Jack is survived by his daughter, Pat Kerns, and her husband, Rick, of Stillwater; grandchildren, Chrystal Tewell, and husband, Lance, of Piedmont, Carrie Bowen of Oklahoma City, and Cameron Kerns, and wife, Lettishia, of Stillwater; and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Trevor Tewell, Blake Bowen, and Samantha and Lauren Kerns.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Grace Living Center for their care. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice as Jack had many interests.
