James Craig Sturgeon

James Craig Sturgeon, 55, passed away suddenly in his sleep at his Ventura, Calif., home, Friday, Aug. 10, 2012.

James was born on         Nov. 5th, 1956, in Wichita, Kan.  During his life he lived in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.; Arcata, Calif.; Stillwater, Okla.; Ardmore, Okla.; and for the past 23 years in     Ventura, Calif.  He graduated from C.E. Donart High School in Stillwater, Okla., in 1975 and then attended     Oklahoma State University and University of Georgia.  He invested most of his career in the oil industry with Halliburton, Schlumberger, Western Wireline, and his current employer, Pros Inc.

James is survived by his wife Narda of 21 years, sons Casey and Taylor of Ventura, Calif., and son Brandon Piper and granddaughter Madison of Okla., and his brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Edward Earl and Mrs. Geraldine James Sturgeon, of Stillwater, Okla., and son Daniel Craig Sturgeon.

James was an excellent athlete in his youth and an avid sports fan, especially when it came to watching his sons play football, basketball, and baseball.  He enjoyed World Superbike motorcycle races at Laguna Seca every year and camping on Turn 11.

James will be missed by many for his outgoing       personality, his sense of humor and always being ready to help those in need.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm, Tuesday, Aug. 14th at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura.  A memorial service will be held at 5pm on Wednesday, Aug. 15th at Trinity Lutheran Church, 196 N. Ashwood, Ventura.  Visitation will be available on Friday, Aug. 17th at Strode Funeral Home in Stillwater, Okla. A graveside service will be held at 11am on Aug. 18th at Fairlawn Cemetery, Stillwater, Okla.
